The BRC is the British Retail Consortium, a trade association recognized by the GFSI. The GFSI is the Global Food Safety Initiative, a project created by top food manufacturers and retailer organizations to establish international food safety standards. The BRC, which covers retailing in the UK, was the first standard to successfully meet GFSI food and safety benchmarks.

A BRC-certified food-grade FIBC facility is one that has been found by the BRC to conform to strict standards for food and safety concerns. The BRC is a widely recognized standard with certifying bodies in nearly 100 countries worldwide.
